Boyd Defeats Plano West in District Opener

The McKinney Boyd Broncos defeated the Plano West Wolves 45-10 for their district opener on Friday, September 13. Students and fans stacked McKinney ISD stadium to support the Broncos in honor of this year’s Homecoming. And the Broncos gave them the show that fans were hoping for.

Plano West (0-3, 0-1 in District 6-6A) struck first, 3 minutes into the first quarter, when QB Jordan Grant ran for 54-yard’s and was brought down at the 1-yard line, sealing the TD on the next play with the carry. Grant would go on to complete 6 more passes for a total of 64 yards and 50 rushing yards. The Wolves RB Tobi Adeoye contributed significantly to their run game, adding 57 yards in 15 rushing attempts. Neway Aske (K) tacked on 3 more points with a 41-yard field goal in the 2nd quarter.

After a grueling exchange in the first half, the Broncos (2-1, 1-0) defense was quick to adapt, holding the Wolves to 10 points and allowing only 37 yards and 3 first downs the entire second half.

Boyd led at the half, 17-10 but that gap quickly increased due to QB Nick Wesloski’s outstanding performance. Wesloski completed a 35-yard TD pass to WR Jake Roberts in the 2nd, after a failed blitz attempt by the Wolves defense, and another 60-yard pass in the 3rd bringing Roberts to a total of 150 yards (4 REC, 2 TD) for the game. The Broncos leaned heavily on their RB Tyler Wall (Sr.) in the second half, who rushed for 160 yards in 27 attempts with 1 TD. Wesloski finished the game with 14 completed passes in 17 attempts, 236 yards and 4 TD’s.

McKinney Boyd is set to play the Prosper Eagles (1-1) on Friday September 20 at Prosper ISD Children’s Health Stadium at 7pm.
